The Only Smart Home Devices You Need in Your House

How can you convert your home into a smart home?
Check out these devices that will provide peace of mind while you’re away from home, letting you control your home with a tap of a button on your smartphone!

With the runaway success of Amazon’s Echo unit, more people are wanting to convert their home into a smart home than ever before. Automating domestic functions gives you back more time. It also provides peace of mind since you can always check on your home while you’re away.
The only problem is compatibility. No single operating standard exists, meaning not all products will work with each other. Times are changing, though, and here at SURE Universal we are big proponents of open connectivity IoT standards – and we are even members of the OCF.
But, until the day comes when most devices can communicate with each other, you’ll have to look at the smart devices you already use. If you’re an Apple user, for example, then stick to devices that work with Apple.
With so many devices available, you’re sure to find products that fit into your smart ecosystem.
Let’s look at the only devices you really need.
Amazon Echo

This smart speaker does so much more than play music. Operated using Alexa, Amazon’s voice recognition system, the Echo reads the news, performs search queries, lets you order from Amazon, and acts as a hub for your other devices.

No official sales figures exist, but estimates claim sales of over 11 million units.

If you like the Amazon ecosystem, you can use Alexa with the SURE Universal remote app. Control your devices with your voice.

If you don’t like coming home to a dark house, the Philips  Hue smart bulbs are perfect for you. They’re compatible with different standards so you can use them within different systems. They also offer 16 million colors so you can customize the lighting within your home.

With access to automated timers, you can set lights to turn on while you’re away. Or set the lights to ‘daylight’ and they will turn on, mimicking sunrise to help you wake up.

You can also turn lights off remotely, which is helpful if you think you’ve left a light on when you go to work.

Maybe you have guests coming to stay. If they arrive while you’re out, grant them an eKey. The optional Plus upgrade lets you control the lock remotely.

Not all your devices have smart equivalents yet. An easy way to control the “dumb” versions is to use a smart plug.

The iHome iSP6 X and the iSP8 lets you turn devices off and on at the plug through your smartphone. That’s great if you worry you’ve left your straighteners on at home, but you’re waiting for a flight at the airport.

Other manufacturers offer smart plugs but the iHome SmartPlug benefits by working with Nest, Wink, and HomeKit.

All of these devices are easy to install and use, letting you control your home with a tap of a button on your smartphone!
