Create Your Own Scary, Spooky Home This Halloween with Smart Technology

Date : 10-17-2018

Trick or Treat! ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK...

It’s a fun time of year, full of sweets, costumes and a fright or two. It’s the perfect time to use your smart home technology to really put a shiver down the spine of trick or treaters with a few nerve jangling pranks.

Smart technology and internet of things (IoT) devices may have lots of serious uses, but there’s nothing wrong with injecting some good old fashioned creepy realism into proceedings with a few tech based tricks!

Setting The Spooky Mood

If you want to strike fear into your Halloween visitors even before they get to your door, then a Hue Motion Sensor is just the ticket. These sensors are wireless, so they can be put anywhere, so long as they’re in range (around 16 feet) and the moment someone passes them, the spooky green or red lights they connect to will bathe the area in a deathly gloom!

What’s more, when Halloween’s over, they come in very handy for a range of home automation purposes.

A Doorbell that Literally Screeaamms!

If you want to catch out those people who aren’t the least bit scared of your light show and make them jump out of their skin, a doorbell that screams loudly when it’s pressed should surely work. To achieve this spooky effect, you’ll need some wireless speakers, a smart hub (e.g. Samsung Smart Hub, Wink Hub etc) and a WiFi enabled smart doorbell (made by Companies like Ring and Nesto).

Once you’ve placed the speakers in the most impactful locations and linked it all together, it will be just a matter of configuring an IFTTT (If This Then That) trigger to play the required sound when someone presses the button. Hide the speakers from plain sight for an extra JUMP factor.

Indoor Frights!

It’s not just trick or treaters that can get the scare treatment at Halloween, as you can give a fright or two to the rest of the family too. Imagine walking into the bathroom, turning the light on and everything going a horrific red and hearing a devilish “MU-HA-HA-HA!” just when you weren’t expecting it. Frightening? We think yes! Smart applications like Hue Disco and Sync My Lights can be employed secretly while everyone’s out along with some wireless speakers and a couple of coloured hue bulbs.

Your family won’t thank you for it, but they’ll certainly remember THAT halloween.

The only limit to the frightening effects you can achieve with smart technology is the limit of your own imagination and at Sure Universal, we hope that you have a wonderfully spooky and safe Halloween this year.  We offer a high quality IoT software platform for smart Homes and offices everywhere and if you’d like to find out more about the benefits of home automation and IoT, take a look around our website….if you dare!!!
