6 Best IoT Podcasts

IoT Podcasts: Where smart home lovers get the latest news on smart technology, IoT cloud platform, business side of IoT, consumer robots, IoT security, smart cities… and more. Here is a collection of the 6 best IoT podcasts .

Once predicted to replace radio, podcasts seemed to fall out of favor when the novelty wore off. Thankfully for fans of the format, they’ve experienced a boom in popularity over recent years. As of 2017, 67 million Americans listened to podcasts every month.

While a Google search for podcasts about the Internet of things (IoT) reveals plenty of results, many shows haven’t released new episodes in months. You don’t want to waste time subscribing to a dead show.

With that in mind, we’ve collected together 6 of the best IoT podcasts, all updated in the last six months. Get your smart home podcast fix with these shows!

1. The Internet of Things Podcast

Host Stacey Higginbotham keeps her finger on the IoT pulse with the Internet of Things podcast. She and co-host Kevin Tofel cover consumer, industrial, and enterprise IoT. Recent episodes have explored blockchain, the potential impact of IoT on warfare, and Las Vegas’s plans to become a smart city.

Alongside news and industry updates, the pair also reviews smart devices. Higginbotham’s technology background and her desire to explore the issues raised by IoT make this a thought-provoking podcast.

2. The Peggy Smedley Show

This popular podcast is almost in its 550th episode. Broadcast live on wsRadio.com, you can also download each show through iTunes or the website. Host Peggy Smedley is also the editorial director of Constructech and Connected World magazines. With a comprehensive background in IoT, she explores industry news alongside expert insiders.

Past episodes have explored emerging IoT trends, privacy, wireless charging, smart cities, devices, and even setting up a start-up. The show offers a strong grounding in IoT for interested listeners.

3. IoT Time

The IoT Time podcast falls under the stewardship of Ken Briodagh. Now into season two, his podcast adds to the content on his IoT Evolution website. They also feature high-quality interviews with IoT leaders, discussing the input of companies like Intel and Autodesk.

If you’re in a hurry, you’ll appreciate the 30-minute running time of these episodes. They’re the perfect length for your morning commute.

4. The IoT-Inc podcast with Bruce Sinclair

This show focuses on the way the IoT impacts on business. Part of the IoT-Inc network, Bruce Sinclair’s show also features interviews with authorities about IoT technology. It may be more “techy” than consumer users need, but if you’re interested in the business side of IoT, then you’ll learn a lot.

Episodes explore, among other things, the GDPR, the “digital twin”, and IoT security. The show is a “must listen” for business owners interested in IoT.

5. The Smart Home Show

As the name suggests, Michael Wolf’s show focuses on the smart home. He features similar devices and technology that we cover here on this blog.

Wolf hasn’t updated the Smart Home Show feed since August 2017. But there are plenty of prior episodes for you to explore in the meantime. Learn about facial recognition technology, consumer robots, and the crossover between virtual reality (VR) and IoT.

6. HomeTech.FM

Part of the same network as the Smart Home Show, HomeTech.FM hosts Seth Johnson, and Jason Griffing discuss home automation, IoT, and other industry news. Previous episodes have explored home security options, the Google Home Mini, and the professional installation of smart home technology.

Not all the discussions are specifically about smart homes. But it’s still a great listen for people interested in IoT and other related technology.

There is a range of dedicated apps, such as Player.fm, iTunes, and Soundcloud, for playing podcasts. Why not combine them with your favorite smart speaker and listen to shows around your home? Make sure you use your SURE Universal remote app to pause and play your content.
