Here are 11 movies and TV shows to watch this Christmas on Netflix.

Christmas Movies

1. A Christmas Prince

A young journalist goes undercover at a palace to dig up dirt on a handsome prince with a playboy reputation. Instead, she falls in love with him. Christmas is a perfect time for light-hearted films – the cheesier, the better!

This Netflix original is also perfect timing following Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle!

2. White Christmas

If cheesy romances aren’t your thing, how about a Christmas classic? Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney dazzle in this sweet musical about a group of singers who team up to perform at a struggling country inn.

3. Bad Santa

Fed up with saccharine-sweet Christmas films? Prefer to watch something that will make you snicker? Billy Bob Thornton swears a lot in Bad Santa, playing a con man who dresses up as Santa to rip off stores on Christmas Eve.

4. Gremlins

Never mind the debate about Die Hard as a Christmas film – what about Gremlins? Who doesn’t want to watch a tiny Mogwai in a Santa hat playing a keyboard? Gizmo, the Mogwai, is the real star of the show, as he battles to help his human friend defend the picturesque Kingston Falls against the marauding gremlins.

5. The Santa Clause

Tim Allen accidentally knocks Santa off his roof on Christmas Eve. Caught up in a weird Lapland loophole, he must take the place of the old Santa, doomed to become a bearded, jolly old man every December to distribute presents around the world. The Santa Clause is available from December 12.

Christmas-Free Movies

6. V for Vendetta

If you’re tired of Christmas fare, then how about a chilling vision of a totalitarian future? This 2005 adaptation of Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel pits Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman against the right-wing government that holds Britain in a terrifying chokehold. It explains the Guy Fawkes masks favored by Anonymous.

7. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The 15th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe earned positive reviews when it debuted earlier in 2017. The sequel to the successful Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) added Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell to the roster of stars. In this outing, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill explores his heritage.

8. Full Metal Jacket

Many view Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 war film as a classic. Exploring the effects of war on US Marines, from training to fighting, the film still earns critical acclaims 30 years after its release. It’s about as far as you can get from a festive atmosphere, but maybe that’s what you want after a hard day’s shopping.

TV Shows

9. Dark: Season 1

This supernatural TV series is the first Netflix original series from Germany. Two children go missing, and the investigation unearths the dark, twisted past of their hometown. It’s a mystery drama, but there are supernatural themes for the Stranger Things fans among you. It’s not an easy watch, but it makes a change from the festive films elsewhere.

10. The Crown: Season 2

This gripping drama, exploring the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, has seized public attention, and positive reviews. Season 1 covered 1947 (the Queen’s marriage to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh) to 1955 (when Princess Margaret’s engagement crumbled). Season 2 covers the period from 1956 until 1963. Expect the Queen’s perspective of the Suez Crisis and the notorious Profumo scandal.

11. Peaky Blinders: Season 4

This gritty series follows the criminal exploits of the real-life notorious gang from Birmingham, UK, in the era following the First World War. Starring Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill, critics have praised the series, and often compare it to Boardwalk Empire. Season 4 is available from December 21.

These titles will give you plenty to watch over the festive season. Remember to download the SURE Universal Remote app to control your Netflix experience from your smartphone.
